Bill C-9 & Arms Embargo Now Townhall Meeting

In the coming weeks two pivotal pieces of legislation are slated to be debated in Parliament prior to their final vote – Bill C-9 and Bill C-233. The ramifications of each Bill are deeply rooted in our collective activism for Palestine.
During this Town Hall, advocates from Canadian Muslim Public Affairs Council (CMPAC) and Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) will contextualize both Bills and provide the resources needed to mobilize our community.

What is Bill C-9?
This Bill intends to amend existing language in the Criminal Code of Canada granting the police and the Public Prosecution Services to interpret religious language, cultural and religious symbols as well as phrases i.e. River to the sea, Palestine will be free; or Globalize the Intifada, in addition to restricting protests outside places of worship that allow for the sale of occupied land in Palestine – all as forms of hate.
If passed, this Bill will restrict our civil liberties and impede our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
What is Bill C-233?
This Bill is intended to amend the Export and Imports Permits Act. The Arms Embargo Now coalition has reported extensively on the connection of exports from Canada destined to Israel directly or through second or third countries; and has advocated for a two-way arms embargo on Israel.
Bill C-233 will place stringent regulatory measures on components, technology, ammunition that are manufactured or assembled in Canada and are sent abroad to be used in the genocide of Palestinians.
The Bill places stringent regulatory measures placing due-diligence requirements upon the Minister to certify that the export item will not be used in the commission of war crimes or violations of international law or human rights law.
Brought to Parliament as a Private Member’s Bill, this piece of legislation requires collective support and mobilization to ensure it passes the final reading in Parliament.
See you at the Town Hall.
In solidarity, free Palestine.
