No need to stay up late or leave out milk and cookies, if you make it to Main Street in Milton by 1:30 pm between Whitmer and Drew Centre you’re sure to catch a peek of Santa. Keep in mind that if you stand closer to Witmer, you’ll see him sooner.

If you’re running late, aim to stand closer to Drew Centre and you’ll catch him closer to the end of his journey. Previous years have had over 40,000 spectators; it can get busy, so come early if you want to pick your spot ahead of time. You may want to bring blankets and fold-out chairs.

History of Santa in Milton

According to Milton historian Jim Dills, Santa made his first Milton appearance at a local shop in 1907. In 1925, Santa moved up to ride the radiator of a motorcar along Main Street. In 1933, the Royal Canadian Legion and firefighters banded together to create a parade that recurred for approximately 20 years.

Although there have been some breaks in the tradition, the Milton Santa Claus Parade is now stronger than ever. Today, local businesses and organizations join in by creating floats or walking in the procession ahead of Santa. In 2023, the parade proudly celebrated its 90th anniversary, marking it as one of Milton’s most cherished events.
