Do you love seeing up-and-coming bands? Get ready to rock out to some of Milton’s top young talent as The Eighth Note Local Eatery and Live Music Bar brings the community together for Youth Battle of the Bands on Saturday, January 25.

Shining a Spotlight on Local Talent

As a restaurant that strives to feed both the body and soul, music is at the heart of The Eighth Note. Guests regularly enjoy live performances by acts spanning genres and musical styles. As a musician herself, owner Jo Anne Torrance is passionate about providing a platform for local youth to showcase their skills.

The Youth Battle of the Bands will bring 10 exciting bands to the stage, including eight from Milton and two more from within Halton. The musical acts will span genres and eras from the 70s and beyond, as well as instrumental styles. Along with teens, youth as young as eight are slated to perform.

“We want to thank all the bands for taking the chance to be a part of this competition,” says Jo Anne. “It takes a lot of guts to do this and there’s a lot of amazing, talented kids that need a place to play. We are so proud of them and the fact that they’re willing to do this.”

Beyond glory, the winners will receive an incredible prize package, including an official band photo taken by Mike Streeter Photography and a paid gig at The Eighth Note. The winner will also get to perform as the opening act for acoustic cover band Merritt Driven before they take the stage on January 25.

A team of five volunteer judges, Fiona Jones, Justin Beck, Luke Yourkevich, Kristie Little, and Stephanie Celsowill, critique the performers. They’ll be judging based on song selection, execution, music skills, crowd interaction, band interaction, and timing. Milton music school, House of Chords, known for nurturing local talent through both lessons and band programs, is supporting by providing some equipment for the event.

Aside from offering a great prize, the event is designed to help all participants meet fellow music lovers and gain experience performing.

“I feel that supporting youth in music is a wonderful way to bring the community together,” shares Jo Anne. “It also allows the kids to gain experience in playing gigs and creates friendships, so it’s important to me.”
