“I just had this feeling that…I needed to do something on my own,” explains Jim. “So, I kind of broke out of the whole employment chain and started this basically cold turkey without knowing much about running a business.”
For two years, Jim learned the ins and outs of running a business while taking on any home improvement projects he could—often those that other businesses weren’t interested in tackling. The missing piece, however, was a creative outlet, which he ultimately found in cabinetry and kitchen remodeling. Today, he no longer runs a one-man operation; the company has grown to include a team of specialized installers and a project manager, while his wife, Ferzeen, manages finance and HR.
