The Best Yoga Studios in Milton: Top Spots to Start or Deepen Your Practice

11 min read  •
Danielle L'Ami

Milton offers a variety of yoga studios and fitness spaces where you can practice. If you’re searching for the best yoga spots in Milton, this list has you covered. I’ve included both studios and more budget-friendly fitness locations for those who are price-conscious.

A Brief Intro to Yoga

Before I list the best place to get your yoga on, as someone who has practiced yoga for years, I know that if you’re new to this style of physical activity, you may feel a little intimidated. So, here’s a brief overview of what you should expect.

Yoga is divided into Eight Limbs, and the physical practice of Asana is just one part of that. Typically, yoga classes focus on physical poses. That said, some classes might include meditation, Dhyana, and/or breathwork, Pranayama.

There are many different types of yoga practice. The most common you will see include the following:

  • Hatha
  • Yin – Restorative Yoga
  • Ashtanga – Power Yoga
  • Iyengar
  • Vinyasa
  • Kundalini
  • Bikram – Hot Yoga

Hatha Yoga is a gentle practice and a great place to start for beginners. Yin, or Restorative Yoga, holds positions longer for a deeper release of tension in the body. Ashtanga, or Power Yoga, is a physically more demanding practice that requires more strength and endurance.

Iyengar focuses on proper alignment, and props are often used to achieve positions. Vinyasa pairs breath to motion; expect a fast-flowing rhythm. Kundalini involves chanting and breathwork. Lastly, Bikram is hot yoga that moves through the same 26 poses in each class.

Each style is there to fill a need within, and you should never feel intimidated about choosing a class. All instructors offer variations on the poses they teach. If you ever feel overwhelmed, slide down into Child’s Pose and return to it when ready.

What to Wear and Bring to Class

Yoga classes are all about being comfortable and able to move. For example, a fitted top is best for those who would prefer not to have their t-shirt fly up over their heads when doing some Downward Dog. Comfortable pants, such as leggings or jogging pants, are a great option for your bottom half.

While you should bring a sweater and some socks for the cool-down at the end of class, otherwise known as Savasana, note that you will be practicing in your bare feet. Lastly, bring a water bottle and a mat. Most yoga studios have mats to rent, but fitness studios will expect you to bring your own.

One last note before we talk about the different locations: never fear that you have to have a “yoga” body to practice yoga. Yoga is for every body. The only way you become more flexible and stronger and develop your endurance is by being consistent with your practice.

In yoga, we like to say you are exactly where you need to be. So, if you’re just starting your yoga journey, have been practicing for years, or coming back to it after a break, you’re in the perfect place within your practice.

Top Yoga Studios in Milton

Modo Yoga

Formally known as Moksha Yoga Milton, Modo Yoga specializes in a hot yoga experience with various types of yoga. They have been a part of the Milton community since 2010. They teach the following classes:

  • Modo Yoga
  • Modo with Music
  • Modo Flow
  • Modo Yin
  • Vinyasa
  • Karma
  • Yoga Teacher Training

Modo Yoga is a great place for beginners to start their practice. It is the studio’s foundational class, you’ll go through a series of 40 postures (asanas), each held for 30-45 sections. In this Hatha-style practice, you will develop your strength, flexibility, and endurance.

If you prefer to have some music with your yoga – it adds a nice element to the class – try the Modo with Music class. Modo Flow is the next step for those who feel comfortable with the first two classes. It requires a more challenging sequence.

Modo Yin is the perfect class for those seeking to get deeper within their poses. This class has 5-6 poses throughout, but each is held for a few minutes to tune into your body’s sensations and connect better with your breath.

The Vinyasa class allows the yogi to move at a faster pace, as each asana is linked with the breath in fluid movement. Unlike the Modo classes, the sequences will vary depending on the class and the instructor. Each of their classes runs 60 minutes long.

Modo Yoga is a franchise studio. They have studios all over Canada and in the U.S. I point this out because some prefer to spend their time in an independently owned and run studio. That said, the studio has some great instructors – shoutout to Jennifer – who love to help you deepen your practice.

They also run community-wide campaigns to raise funds to protect the Earth, as sustainability is important to their business.

Here are the different ways you can get your yoga on at their studio. They currently have the following options available to purchase:

  • Intro Special – $30 unlimited yoga for 14 days
  • Modo Membership – $115 unlimited classes per month (renews every month)
  • 30 Days Unlimited – $150 single purchase
  • 5 Class Card – $75 for 5 classes
  • 10 Class Card – $ 145 for 10 classes
  • Drop-In Class 0 $19 for 1 class
  • 21-Day Transformational Challenge – $90 unlimited for 21 days

Looking to go with a friend? They have gift cards available with different price points. They also have mats for rent in case you run out the door so excited to get to class and forget your mat at home.

If you want to know their schedule, you can find it on their website and reserve your spot for a class. In some of the scheduling, you can see who the instructor will be. A bonus if you’re like me and get attached to your instructor’s style of teaching.

Life Yoga Studio

61 James Snow Pkwy N #203, Milton, ON L9E 0H1

This yoga studio in Milton offers both virtual and in-studio classes. Live-stream classes are a great option if you don’t have a way to get to the studio, are tight on time, or simply prefer your early morning yoga class at home with your coffee by your side.

If you’re new to yoga, or simply new to Life Yoga studio, there is the wonderful option to book a yoga introductory call or consultation which you can schedule online. You can also book their workshop-style class called Beginners Yoga.

This is the class you’ll want if you’re a complete beginner. Here they go over the basic yoga poses, from Downward Dog to Warrior 2. They’ll also go over what you can expect in a typical yoga class, so you can go into your first real class fully prepared.

Life Yoga offers the following classes at their studio:

  • Hatha
  • Ashtanga
  • Restorative, including Zen Stretch
  • Vinyasa
  • Yin Yang
  • Yoga with Free Weights
  • Hatha Flow
  • Kids Yoga
  • Yoga Teacher Training

Each of their classes is 45-60 minutes long and can be booked online ahead of time. You can see the instructor who will run the class along with the type of yoga that will be practiced.

For example, had a long day at work and can’t seem to shake the stress? Try a restorative class. Want to introduce yoga to your little ones and bond over the power of physical exercise that also treats the soul? Bring your kids to a Kids Yoga class.

Love the structure of Hatha Yoga but want to flow more with your breath? Try the unique Hatha Flow. Or maybe you’re looking to add some strength training to your asana practice? Yoga with Free Weights could be the class you’re searching for.

But what if you want to test the waters before you fully commit? They offer an introductory package, two weeks of unlimited yoga for $39. Or feel free to select an option from the following:

  • Monthly Unlimited – $110 every month for both in-studio and live-stream
  • Single Class Pass – $29 covers in-class or live-stream
  • 10 Class Pass – $245 covers in-class or live-stream
  • Unlimited Livestream – $29 every month (minimum 6 months plan)
  • Kids 10 Class Pass – $225 (covers 10 classes within a 3-month timeframe)
  • 1-on-1 private yoga training – contact studio for pricing

Beyond the above yoga classes, they offer some amazing yoga events and workshops. Ever been curious about Acro Yoga? Or how about Yoga Nidra? Check out their website for more details on these other yoga practices.

As someone who prefers to get my sweat on without the excess heat from a hot yoga class, I truly appreciate that Life Yoga is Milton’s only regular-temperature yoga studio. The vibe of the studio and the people is caring, nurturing, and experienced.

The WOMB Milton

The WOMB, although not a yoga studio per se, is a place to support the health and wellness of families, particularly within the area of birth and parenting education. As such it offers yoga classes for women looking to conceive, who are already pregnant, or want to try Baby and Me Yoga.

Yoga for Conception is a yoga class that includes 6 weeks of fertility teachings. The goal is to visually create a space for new life within the womb of the woman. Trying to conceive can be a stressful time for many women, and this class can help calm your nerves while helping you tune into your body.

Prenatal Yoga is a childbirth preparation class meant to help the mother-to-be increase her strength, flexibility, and perhaps most importantly, endurance. It focuses on strengthening mental clarity and helps teach focused breathing.

Baby and Me Yoga is a yoga class where you and your baby can bond. It is a safe and easy way to help get you back into exercise all while connecting with other parents in a structured environment. It promotes better sleep, and digestion for your baby, and helps them develop their motor and sensory skills.

The prices of each class vary depending on whether you want the whole session or just want to do a drop-in. Some are only offered in-person, while other classes can be watched online, on-demand. It’s best if you look on their website or call and talk with one of their representatives.

What is nice about taking one or more of these classes is connecting with other parents who are going through similar life experiences. The environment and staff are very warm and inviting and are there to help you through this big change in life.
